Status, challenges and opportunities for apple production in Eastern Algeria

Apples (Malus domestica) are one of the most important temperate fruit crops in world. Apple production provides, directly or indirectly, employment and improvement living standards to millions people, playing a key role rural economies. We have conducted an interview-based survey assess current status challenges faced by apple Batna Khenchela provinces, two producing regions Eastern Algeria. The was between March November 2019. A total 50 growers answered 40 questions, including 13 direct 20 qualitative questions. scale ranging from 1 (very low) 5 high) used as quantitative measurement for 12 reliability index questionnaire 0.827. results identified main Algeria as: limited access certified clean planting material, knowledge disease pest identification, inadequate appropriate management, lack storage facilities transportation harvested fruit, insufficient marketing markets. study also need development cost-effective plant multiplication, horticultural management practices educational programmes suitable local conditions enhance productivity economic benefits orchards.
